I studied abroad in Berlin, Germany during the fall of 2010 and lived in what 20 years ago was East Berlin and studied in what was West Berlin. The division of what was once East and once West is harder to see as the years past, but there are hints. An obvious clue to the once divided city is the East side gallery. Once a part of the Berlin wall, today the East side gallery acts as a canvas to display artwork on what was the West side and a blank wall on what was once the East side. Another hint are the walk symbols located in East Berlin. These two hints are two out of the many hidden moments to demonstrate Berlin’s divided history. These hints can not be removed as the history will then be lost. I believe out PAST as a society speaks to our FUTURE and therefore can not be ignored.
